General Information

Except for masonry chimney, insulation and steel roofing this is an entirely owner built home. It took us about 5 years: we built the stone foundation from stones on site, logged and sawed all lumber used in the house, from framing to finish (except for cedar shingles). Trees for the lumber were found on site or nearby (from neighbors, friends and family). Solar PV array, inverter and batteries are located in and on the barn (also owner built) which is adjacent to the house.

Features

Super Insulation:roof R60-65; north, east & west walls R40; S wall R30; stone foundation R10, , Double hung windows: S.G. with low E storm panels, , Wind barrier- taped Tyvek, , Vapor Barrier- 4 sides 8mil Tenoarm, caulked and taped, , Lighting - extensive daylight & use of reflective surfaces; 4 solatubes;CF bulbs throughout, , Door and custom window weatherstrip; silicone gaskets, , Refrigeration - ice (used year round), , Freezers (2) solar powered (AC, Energy Star rated), , Water handling : manual pumping, , Waste : all food, garden yard & human waste is composted.

Special Considerations

Both barn and house are 3/4 mile from nearest public road. We would appreciate it if you will park at the end of the driveway (signs will indicate this) and walk in. This would be helpful as the driveway does not permit 2 cars to pass and turning around is difficult.
