General Information
The target is an energy star rated net-zero home. Initially solar heating will be provided by the large built in front porch and some direct passive gain. A 2.9kw grid-tied PV array has provided all of the household consumption including electric hot water and some of the heating load. The solar domestic hot water collector has been installed and will be used with a separate pre-heat tank. In time the clerestory windows will provide additional heat from finished attic spaces.
Features
Ground-loop sourced geothermal heat pump, energy recovery ventilation, grid-tied solar electric. The sub-floors, most windows, doors and nearly all insulation are recycled, near zero construction scrap, zero generator usage, bamboo floors, R30 recycled foam insulated walls, significant framing lumber savings from 'optimum value engineered' design.
System Components
Water-Furnace geothermal heat pump, Evergreen PV, E-Tech hot water heat pump, Lossnay energy recovery ventilator, Ford Festiva and Toyota MR2 EV conversions, GE Elec-trak mower and snow blower, Grundfos variable speed well pump.
Green Products
Fiber-cement siding, recycled materials, bamboo floors, locally milled ceiling boards.
